Casting Film Machine Technology Process

The core parameters of a small experimental casting film machine are directly related to the quality of the film in every aspect.

Extrusion unit:

  • The screw diameter is φ20~30mm, with a length-to-diameter ratio of 28:1. The screw material is nitrided alloy steel, with a surface hardness of HV800 or higher.
  • The high aspect ratio ensures that the melt is fully plasticized within the limited barrel, eliminating crystallization points from the source.

Die head system:

  • The effective width of the die lip is 200mm (supporting customization and expansion). It adopts a hanger-style runner design, with the die lip gap being finely adjusted using a differential head, achieving a precision level of 0.01mm.
  • The lateral thickness variation of the cast film can be controlled within ±3%, achieving a uniformity level that is difficult to match in the blown film process.

Cooling and setting:

  • Equipped with a φ300mm mirror-coated casting roll, the surface is plated with hard chromium and polished to a mirror finish, with a roughness Ra of ≤0.05μm. This ensures that the film surface is as smooth as a mirror and has a low haze value.

Temperature control:

  • From the barrel to the die, multi-zone independent intelligent temperature control, with a temperature control accuracy of ±1℃ and a maximum operating temperature of 300℃
  • Whether it’s general-purpose materials like PE and PP, or degradable PLA, they can all operate stably within their respective optimal processing windows.

Our Advantages

Thickness uniformity

  • Fine adjustment of the die lip and shaping with a mirror roller minimizes the lateral thickness variation of the film to an extremely small range.

Transparency and surface quality

  • Rapid cooling and solidification prevent the melt from crystallizing and growing, thus “locking” it into a low haze structure, which complements the transfer effect of the mirror roller.
  • For applications that have stringent requirements for “appearance”, such as high-transparency packaging films, optical protective films, and medical dressing base films, the casting process is the only solution.

Strong adaptability to materials

  • From general-purpose plastics such as PE and PP to engineering plastics like PET and TPU, and from petroleum-based raw materials to fully biodegradable PLA and PBAT, small cast film machines are all capable of handling them.

Micro-dosing saves raw materials.

  • Compared to the startup volume of hundreds of kilograms for large-scale casting lines, a small machine can complete a complete casting experiment starting with just 5kg.
  • For high-value formulations containing nano-fillers and functional additives, the material cost savings achieved in each experiment are considerable.

Intelligent Control

  • The entire machine is controlled by a PLC touch screen, allowing real-time setting and monitoring of parameters such as extrusion speed, temperature of each section, casting line speed, and cold roller temperature.
  • Some models support data collection and export, making every startup an accumulation of process experience, rather than a repetitive trial and error.

Traction and rewinding

  • The casting line speed ranges from 0 to 8m/min with stepless speed regulation. The winding process is controlled by torque motors or magnetic powder clutches to maintain constant tension, ensuring that the film remains wrinkle-free and does not undergo tensile deformation during collection.
