PP PE Recycling Process

PE and PP, both belonging to the polyolefin family, are currently the two largest plastics in global production.

PP PE waste is sorted, cleaned, and crushed.

Then it is sent to the extruder for melting and plasticization, and cut into uniform plastic particles through water cooling.

Finally packaged and sold to downstream manufacturers for reprocessing into new products.

PP PE Recycled Extrusion Processing Technology

Thin films and hard plastics require different processes and solutions for recycling after sorting and cleaning.

Film (soft plastic) recycling:

  • Granulator + twin-screw extruder (L/D 48~56:1) + hydraulic filter + water-cooled pelletizing system
  • Granulator + single screw extruder (L/D 30~33:1) + hydraulic filter + water-cooled cutting system

Bucket/pallet (hard plastic) recycling:

  • Volume feeding+forced feeding+twin-screw extruder (L/D 48~56:1)+hydraulic filter+water-cooled granulation system
  • Volume feeding+single screw extruder 1 (L/D 26~30:1)+single screw extruder 2 (L/D 10~12:1)+hydraulic filter+water-cooled granulation system

Extrusion process parameter control:

  • Feed the uniformly mixed materials into a co-rotating twin-screw/ single screw extruder
  • The processing temperature of PP PE is controlled at 150-250 ℃
  • The entire process adopts PID precise temperature control, with temperature fluctuations controlled within ± 2 ℃, to avoid further degradation of plastics caused by excessive temperature
  • During the extrusion process, vacuum exhaust is activated to extract volatile matter and residual moisture from the material, thereby improving the internal density of the particles
  • Automatic hydraulic filter, filters impurities, reduces manual labor, convenient and fast
  • Use Water strand pelleting system(The melting point is too high, need Water Ring pelleting system)

 

Twin/Single Screw Recycling Difference

The advantages of twin-screw are:

  1. Additives can be added to change product performance
  2. Color masterbatch or whitening masterbatch can be added to change the color
  3. Add 10-30% glass fiber (to improve rigidity and strength) or calcium carbonate (to save costs)
  4. Better mixing effect

Advantages of single screw:

  1. The screw clearance is large, suitable for large sheet materials, and the feeding will not be stuck
  2. The machine cost is lower than that of twin-screw (about 5-15%)
  3. The maintenance cost of a single screw is lower than that of a twin-screw
